Anyone who has riden in the backseat of a small car knows how close you are to the back of the car. Toyota has developed a new rear window airbag which deploys from the headliner to protect the head and neck of back seat passengers in the event of a rear-end collision.
The air bags will be standard on Toyota's new city car the iQ, and might possibly migrate to other models. Toyota also wants to make side impact airbags standard on all their models.

Porsche has claimed that they could not reproduce the Nissan GT-Rs 7:29 lap time around the famed Nurburgring.
Further, they claim they couldn't even manage better than a 7:54 lap time in the GT-R. In their test both the Porsche 911 Turbo, and GT2 beat the GT-R ... the GT2 taking 7:34 to complete a lap and the 911 Turbo taking 7:38. August Achleitner, the 911 product chief says "This wonder car with 7:29 could not have been a regular series production car ... for us, it's not clear how this time is possible. What we can imagine with this Nissan is they used other tyres". Source: carsguide

The Lincoln Navigator will get a much needed 15% improvement in it's fuel economy for the 2009 model year.
The vehicle is now rated as 14 mpg city, 20 mpg highway (up from 12/18). The improvement is due to changes to the engine's idle speed and the transmission ratios. The engine map was also recalibrated to use a more agressive fuel shut-off during deceleration.
